Wheelhouse Studios is an open art studio in Madison, located in the lower level of Memorial Union. With three versatile workspaces, flexible studio designs, drop-in art opportunities, and classes for enthusiasts and first-time artists alike, it’s easy to engage in the arts at Wheelhouse.
Art classes include drawing, painting, ceramics, glass art, jewelry, movement art, cooking, music, printmaking and fabric arts. Wheelhouse Studios is your creative outlet in the heart of UW-Madison’s campus.

Open Art Studio Information
We're open! 12-10pm, Monday-Sunday
Access is FREE for current UW-Madison students | Studio passes are available for lifetime and annual Wisconsin Union members and current UW fac/staff.
All patrons are required to sign in at the front desk. Read our FAQ page for more information about open studios.

Group Events
With a group of eight or more, Wheelhouse Studios offers the perfect place to host a private teambuilding event or celebration. Our talented teaching artists will guide your group through all of the steps of your project.
Free Programming
Throughout the fall and spring semesters, join us for Free Art Fridays to relax and unwind.
Plus, all ages and skill levels are welcome to join us at the Terrace Art Zone on the Memorial Union Terrace for free afternoon art activities. Wednesday-Saturday | 5-8 pm | approximately June - August each year. Visit the events calendar for specific dates.
Wheelhouse Art Kits
Wheelhouse Studios offers a selection of art kits to kick-start your creativity. Purchase a simple do-it-yourself project kit to complete at the studio.
